Behind the Logo

Every element of our new logo has been designed with intention — drawn directly from the geology, landscapes and skies that make camping in Kenya unlike anywhere else on earth. Here's the story behind the icon.

The Colour of the Earth

The burnt, iron-rich orange of our lettering is no accident. Anyone who has pitched a tent in Tsavo or Samburu, or driven through the Highlands, knows that soil. It stains your shoes, your tent pegs, and your memories. These laterite soils have formed over millennia — the result of high rainfall and intense heat gradually leaching minerals from volcanic rock, and leaving behind a concentration of iron oxides and aluminium. This deep rust-red earth is one of Kenya's most iconic signatures, and it felt only right that it should be central to our logo.

The Mountain at the Centre

At the heart of the logo stands a silhouette that does double duty. Look at it one way and you see Batian, the highest point of Mount Kenya and one of the most dramatic rock formations on the continent. One of the special parts of camping in Kenya is that in most of the country, there is the ever-present watchfulness of an ancient mountain — whether close or distant — to orient and ground you: Mount Kenya, Kilimanjaro, Suswa, Longonot, Kasigau. Mountains are markers of place in Kenya, and we wanted to reflect that in our logo. Look again, and you see a tent, its flap pulled open to reveal everything that lies beyond: a new view, a new morning, a new adventure. In this sense, a tent is one frame through which you can experience Kenya and its ancient landscapes.

The Sun — or the Moon

Above Batian sits a warm amber disc. In the brightest reading, it's the sun that turns the plains copper at dusk and wakes you early along with birdsong. But it could just as easily be the moon cresting the peak of Batian in the small hours, casting a glow across the mountain and your tent. One of the great gifts of camping is experiencing the full cycle of the sky — the soft light of morning, the blaze of midday, the slow burn of sunset, and the extraordinary darkness of a Kenyan night, dense with stars. Our logo points to that in simple form.

Our hope is that as you enjoy your camping experiences in Kenya, you will feel grounded by Kenya’s geology, awed by its mountains, and gain perspective from being under its skies.
