Established in 1933, Kakamega Forest Reserve is renowned for its rich biodiversity, including over 400 bird species. As the last remaining Kenyan fragment of the vast Congolese rainforests, it is an absolute haven for birdwatchers. Rare and endemic species, such as the blue-headed bee-eater, African grey parrot, and Great Blue Turaco, are among its avian residents.

There isn’t a lot of information available online about this campsite, so be sure to call KWS in advance of your visit for directions and booking details. You will also need to access the campsite from the northern side of the forest. Basic amenities are provided.

During your stay, we highly recommend driving over to Rondo Retreat Center, located in the heart of the forest, where you can enjoy a meal and/or take walks within their beautifully landscaped gardens and forest trails. Rondo also offers guided walks through the forest.
