Sangare Conservancy is one of the lesser-known game areas in the Laikipia region, yet it possesses a considerable charm and appeal. It is relatively accessible, given its proximity to Nyeri town and the short distance to the gate off the road to Nanyuki.

One of its key features is the Sangare Dam, constructed in the 1950s to provide water for irrigation and livestock in the region. The dam was built by hand, with local communities contributing to its construction using traditional methods. The main campsite in Sangare is situated in a pleasant spot along the banks of the dam, offering good facilities and a large fireplace.

If you stay here, be sure to take a drive down to the Amboni River, which features scenic walking trails along the riverine forest, as well as fly fishing opportunities. You can also hike down to the waterfall below the Sangare Dam and explore the small cave beneath it! This campsite is perfect for a low-key camping weekend and is well-suited for birdwatchers.
