Twin Peaks Campsite, Aberdares National Park

This campsite is ideal for those aiming to conquer Mount Satima in the Aberdares, which stands at just under 4,000 meters above sea level. It features one of the most scenic yet least strenuous alpine trails in the mountain range, with gradual ascents and truly breathtaking views across the rocky outcrops and rolling moorland of the Aberdare ranges. You can also marvel at the dramatic expanse of the Rift Valley below.

Twin Peaks Campsite is accessible by road and located at the trailhead to Mount Satima. The campsite sits between two large twin rocks (hence the name) and offers a series of short, exciting hikes in and around them. While there are no facilities, the stunning scenery more than makes up for it. You can access this campsite via either the Shamata or Rhino gates, depending on whether you’re approaching the mountain from the west (Ol Kalou side) or east (Nyeri side). If you manage to climb up to Mount Satima, be sure to look out for the peak of Mount Kenya poking through the clouds to the northeast!
