Viewpoint Campsite, Mukogodo Forest Reserve

Upon arriving at Viewpoint Campsite, you'll quickly understand the inspiration behind its name—offering some of the most surreal and uninterrupted vistas across the lowlands and mountain peaks of Samburu. The views here are so expansive that you can see all the way to Mount Ololokwe and even the Matthew’s Ranges on a clear day. You simply won't want to leave. We recommend bringing your hammock and setting it up under the tree that grows out of the rocky outcrop at the viewpoint.

While Mukogodo Forest Reserve is a long drive away (about 2-3 hours from Nanyuki town), the journey offers a complimentary game drive through the Borana Conservancy, as a public road runs through this private conservancy, allowing you the chance to spot the occasional rhino. While there isn't a lot of game, guided walks through the forest are quite enjoyable. The forest reserve itself is an inspiring story of community-led conservation. The campsite offers no amenities or facilities, and you will need to be accompanied by rangers. A 4WD vehicle is a must for this trip.
